Real Life Technology catches up with Second Life® Abilities

Snapshots of my builds using lighted prim surfaces in Piserchia, Foyle Gully & Trumbull regions of Second Life Mainland.
The Second Life® (SL™) tagline is “Your World. Your Imagination.™” which invites you into one virtual world that allows full artistic freedom of building and design that is free to all residents. The way the 3D building works in SL allows one’s imagination wide open possibilities to think outside of the cube.
The ability to select just one face to change textures and/or colors, with the addition of the glow attribute on the texture tab, brings a new world to lighting. A attribute that I have made great use of in my building to eliminate the need for adding lighting objects which would equal more prims. How much easier and less wasteful is selecting one side of a tortured prim to make a light panel.
Imagining wallpaper that lights up in real life and “thinking outside the light bulb”, scientists at GE Global Research developed Organic Light Emitting Diodes or OLEDs. Made of thin sheets of material that light up when an electrical charge is applied, OLEDs open up a new realm of lighting design possibilities that echo the unlimited illumination applications already available in the virtual world of Second Life.
Take a look at the video from GEReports found on YouTube that demonstrates the wonderous range of usage of this new flexi OLED technology. This video is in collaboration with the Cleveland Institute of Art. Well done!
How exciting to see real life catch up with our imaginations in virtual worlds. Hurray!!
